The Church Planter Master Trainer Development Workshop was successfully conducted in Ndilande Community, Blantyre, Malawi. Blantyre, the country's commercial and industrial hub, provided a strategic location for equipping church leaders who will spearhead church planting and disciple-making efforts across Malawi and eventually neighboring African countries.
The workshop brought together 13 committed participants from different parts of Blantyre, all of whom attended the entire training with exceptional commitment, enthusiasm, and a shared vision of fulfilling the Great Commission through biblical church planting.
The workshop aimed to develop a contextualized Church Planter Training Curriculum for Malawi, equip participants to become Master Trainers capable of reproducing the training nationwide, produce a structured skills manual for church planters, develop lesson plans answering the practical question of what new believers should be taught next, and establish a biblical discipleship pathway that can be replicated in Malawi and adapted for neighboring African nations.
Day One focused on building the biblical foundation of church planting. Participants explored God's mission for the Church and the role of every believer in making disciples, discussed the challenges and opportunities facing church planting in Malawi, and began developing the framework for a contextualized curriculum.
Day Two centered on curriculum and manual development. All thirteen trainees returned and participated in an intensive session designing the structured skills manual for church planters and developing comprehensive lesson plans covering evangelism, discipleship, membership, leadership, and Christian witness. A major achievement was creating a teaching sequence that addresses one of the greatest challenges facing new churches: knowing what to teach new believers after conversion.
Day Three focused on strategic planning and implementation. Participants completed a practical framework covering ministry goals, training modules, practical skills, lesson plans, implementation strategies, and measurable outcomes. The team also developed a five-module church planter training pathway: Evangelism (Faith), Discipleship (Goodness), Membership (Knowledge), Leadership (Self-Control), and Salt and Light (Perseverance) — modules designed around the principles of 2 Peter 1:5–7 to ensure both biblical depth and practical ministry application.
For each module, participants identified the key competencies, lesson topics, practical ministry skills, and discipleship outcomes needed to equip church planters to make disciples, establish healthy churches, and develop new leaders.
Key achievements from the workshop include training 13 future Master Trainers, developing the framework for a Malawi Church Planter Curriculum, producing the structure of a Church Planter Skills Manual, creating lesson plans for each training module, building a strategic implementation framework, establishing a reproducible discipleship pathway for new believers, and strengthening teamwork among participants.
The training is expected to strengthen church planting throughout Malawi by producing well-equipped trainers who can multiply disciples and establish healthy churches. The curriculum is designed to be reproduced and contextualized for use beyond Malawi, providing a foundation for expansion into neighboring African countries.
To ensure continuity, a six-member Steering Committee was selected from among the trainees. The committee will work with the training team to develop detailed lesson content, prepare facilitator and participant guides, review curriculum materials, coordinate pilot testing, collect feedback, and prepare the final training manual for national implementation.
The Malawi Church Planter Master Trainers Training successfully met its objectives, equipping a committed team of future Master Trainers, producing a contextualized five-module Church Planter Training Pathway, and laying the foundation for a national training manual. This initiative positions Malawi to develop a sustainable, locally owned church planter training system capable of equipping leaders to make disciples, plant healthy churches, and multiply gospel-centered communities throughout the nation and beyond.
